Parent Night

Whether you feel like your family are Youth Group pros or your family just starting plugging in, we want you there! We want to reemphasize and reestablish the partnership between families and church this year.

Our hope is that Parent Night can be a space that encourages you in the ways you are already so faithfully discipling your students, that strengthens the partnership between you and our Youth Ministry, and that guides us to draw our 5th-12th grade students into deeper friendship with Jesus.

Don’t miss these evenings to connect with other families in our God family, to pray over our students and to understand the WHY of our Oceanhills Youth Ministry! And, don’t forget to bring your students because this night is for them, too!

Oceanhills Youth Ministry is a community where you can belong before you believe. We exist to encourage and equip students to become lifelong followers of Jesus and inspire them to courageously serve a world in need.

Sarah Cowan Johnson, in her book Teach Your Children Well, write this sobering reality:

“At this moment in the United States, the odds of our children walking with Jesus as adults are equivalent to that of a coin toss. The Fuller Youth Institute estimates that 50 percent of high school students actively involved in their churches walk away from their faith after graduation. Pay attention to that phrasing: It’s not 50 percent of churched high school students or those who attended church occasionally. It’s 50 percent of teens who are actively involved in their churches. We are talking about 50 percent of our most committed youth groupers choosing to do life apart from Jesus as adults.”

These odds are disheartening. This reality is not what we want for our students, your children. We want to beat these odds, and we want to beat these odds with YOU, our Oceanhills Youth families. We want to be a part of the solution with YOU! Your child’s spiritual formation begins in your home. Our youth ministry want to complement and support, not supplement, what you are already doing so faithfully in your homes.

Johnson offers families and churches this hopeful vision:

“Imagine a generation of young people–your children among them–who knows what it means to be with Jesus, who have become more and more like him as they’ve grown, who seek to do what he did as they move through the world, and who are committed to journeying with one another.”
