Worship Night This Friday
I want to personally invite you to join us Friday night in the Loft for our first summer Worship Night: Praise, Prayer, and Practices!
Have you ever thought about WHY we worship? Why do we sing songs together on Sunday mornings? Why do we pray together as a church, and listen to messages about Jesus and the Bible? Why is it important?
A recent New Morning Mercies struck a chord with me regarding the WHY of worship. It’s because we were made for it, plain and simple. Paul Tripp says, “we have been designed by God to be worshipers. This means that worship is first our identity before it ever becomes our activity. There is no such thing as a non-worshiping human being. The only thing that divides human beings is what or whom they worship.” Do you believe that? Do you believe that you have been hard-wired to worship? That whether you are aware of it or not, you ARE worshiping something or someone?
He goes on to say, “this means that we all attach our identity, our hopes and dreams, our inner sense of well-being, and our meaning and purpose to something. We all give the functional control of our hearts to something. We all live after something. We all tend to surrender to and serve what we think will give us life.”
What have you been worshiping in this season? Have you been looking to your job to give you a sense of purpose and identity? Are you looking to your spouse or friends to fulfill your hopes and dreams, or to make you feel loved? Are you looking to your things, your activities, or your accomplishments to bring peace to your heart? I can always tell when I’ve been worshiping things and people, instead of Jesus. My life starts to feel needy… enough is never enough. Nothing ever quite satisfies. It’s like I’m on a treadmill where I’m running faster and faster, trying to get more love, more affirmation, more experiences, more things, more connection, more, more, more. But when Jesus is the center, when I am worshiping Him, everything else can just BE. The other things in my life can serve their true purpose as gifts from Him, not as my hope, purpose, and identity. That is the difference worship makes.
Will you join us on Friday night? It will be a time to re-center our hearts on the life-giver, Jesus. It will be a time to sing together, pray together, leave space to hear the whisper of the Holy Spirit, and to get acquainted with some practices to help us go deeper in our worship. Everyone is welcome. There is free childcare and it’s summertime - so parents, let those kiddos stay out ’til 8, and come re-fill your heart with us.
Looking forward to seeing you all at The Loft this Friday from 6-8pm!
