Staff Transition & Global 6K

Dear Oceanhills Family,

The past few years we have been re-imagining what it looks like for our community to help bring God's Kingdom here in Santa Barbara as it is in heaven. Through lots of prayer and discussion we began focusing on some local initiatives to "do justice and love mercy" in our own city. Specifically our Monthly Meal Share at Alameda Park Program and our Franklin Literacy Partnership have continued to grow in opportunity as more people are jumping in and serving there. We are beginning to see a lot of fruit and impact from both of these opportunities to serve God in our own backyard.

Erin Beck has been our champion for these initiatives and our other mission movements at Oceanhills these past 2 years as she has worked part-time on staff. She has served our community so well, so selflessly and sacrificially, and always with abounding joy! She has 2 small children and a thriving real estate business and has decided it's time for her to hand her leadership role over to another person for this next season. She loves what she gets to do here and we love having her, but God is leading her to make a change and let this go. We are deeply thankful for Erin's work in our community and know she will continue to have a profound impact on a volunteer level. Thank you, Erin!

Because of this we will be praying and re-imaging once again what kind of person we need so we can keep moving forward in local and global missions. Please pray with us about this and if you have a deep passion for justice, mercy, and compassion and are interested in a part-time role at Oceanhills, please let us know. You can email me at

Related to missions, we want to remind you that we have the annualTeam World Vision Global 6K Run/Walk for Clean Water is this weekend, Saturday May 19th. Every 21 seconds a child dies in the world because of a lack of access to clean water. We can make a difference this weekend by bringing clean water to kids while at the same time teaching our own kids about serving and giving to others. Don't miss this opportunity! This is a fun family event and an easy open door to invite a friend or neighbor who is not part of Oceanhills to participate with us! We will be meeting at 8:45am at the bottom of Milpas.  All you need to do to register is visit this website Oceanhills 6K and get signed up to our team! Hope to see you this Saturday as we continue to add to the number of kids who will have access to clean water because of you.

We also look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we continue our Flow series at 10am at the Marjorie Luke Theater.

Love everyone always,

Pastor Jono Shaffer

PS- Surprise! We're having a Babysitting Night at The Loft TOMORROW from 5:30-8:30pm hosted by our Young Adults! They are using this as a way to serve our community and fundraise for their first mission trip this summer to Ecuador. Sign up here & pay at the door.
