New Life, New Sermon Series, New Connections...

WOW! What a celebration of God's grace we had on the beach last Sunday!  We filled up East Beach and saw God move in the hearts of people leaning into the adventure of faith. We witnessed the Holy Spirit breaking down walls, calling people closer to Himself and challenging people to take their next step of faith as we baptized…

Church on the Beach is THIS SUNDAY!

Holy Guacamole! Is it really possible that we are already six months into 2018? OK then... It seems like a good time for a “mid- year spiritual challenge”.

Choose 1-2 of these ways to live in the Flow of God’s Spirit for the rest of this summer...

What's the big deal about baptism?

What is the big deal about baptism? I actually have a few friends who have never been baptized… They’re fully devoted followers of Jesus, but they’re waiting for the perfect moment and the perfect location and to have the perfect group of family and friends around them… And they’ve been waiting for decades for the perfect scenario. If that’s you, why not say “HINENI” – The Hebrew word that means “God I’m ready and willing, no conditions, the answer is yes to your invitation and commandment to be baptized!”…

Worship Night This Friday

I want to personally invite you to join us Friday night in the Loft for our first summer Worship Night: Praise, Prayer, and Practices!

Have you ever thought about WHY we worship?  Why do we sing songs together on Sunday mornings?  Why do we pray together as a church, and listen to messages about Jesus and the Bible? Why is it important?

A recent New Morning Mercies struck a chord with me

"Gettin Jiggy With It” by Will Smith was one of the big songs of 1998! 20 years ago… 20 years this month I stepped out of the boat (see Peter in Matthew 14) and followed the Whisper when I heard God calling me to plant a new church in downtown Santa Barbara. 20 years is a long time leading and Pastoring the same church. But I am more energized, passionate, and fired up than when we started this thing.

New Protege Program

"Whisper: Hearing The Voice of God" series is off and running.

36 days of “hineni”= the Hebrew word meaning “Here I am ready and willing; no conditions; the answer is YES GOD, what’s the question?” Abraham, Moses, and Samuel each embraced that attitude before God, and God did amazing things in and through each one of them. The question for us all to ponder is; Am I willing to pray hineni every day for the next 36 days

Life at Oceanhills

What a ride! As the school year winds down we have a lot to be thankful for as a church family. God has been gracious to our community this year. We have been growing in attendance,  with more leaders, stronger giving, and with more people saying yes to living a fully surrendered life following Jesus.

Ready For An Adventure?

"A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other." 1 Corinthians 12:7.

What a powerful message we heard on Sunday! We so easily forget that God has given EACH OF US spiritual gifts so that we can help each other! Maybe if you're like me you tend to think "Oh well I can't sing like her, or speak like him, or lead like her, or pray like he can" and so we get paralyzed, do nothing, and stay on the sidelines.

Staff Transition & Global 6K

The past few years we have been re-imagining what it looks like for our community to help bring God's Kingdom here in Santa Barbara as it is in heaven. Through lots of prayer and discussion we began focusing on some local initiatives to "do justice and love mercy" in our own city. Specifically our Monthly Meal Share at Alameda Park Program and our Franklin Literacy Partnership have continued to grow in opportunity as more people are jumping in and serving there. We are beginning to see a lot of fruit and impact from both of these opportunities to serve God in our own backyard.

Wild At Heart

I spent four days last week up in the mountains of Colorado at a spiritual boot camp along with 500 men from around the country and Maury Hayashida, The Chair of our Leadership Team. Those who came were hungry to grow into a deeper walk with God. The big theme was restoring & recovering our hearts that have been “lost, stolen, assaulted, and surrendered.”

Below are 5 of my fresh reflections from the notes I took…

God is moving!

Wow! Why was Sunday so powerful & special? The Holy Spirit was unleashed on, in, and through the Worship Team, Discipleship/Confirmation Students, & Dr. Laila DiGuilio's message on Sunday -they all contributed to helping us experience the power and presence…

In The Flow...

According to Webster’s Dictionary, “Flow” means “to move with a continual change of place...”

We are in 50 Days of Flow - which means we are moving with the Holy Spirit -continually changing... continually listening to the Spirit’s whisper... continually open wherever we find ourselves...

50 Days of Flow

Last Sunday we launched "50 Days of Flow" with an invitation to pray every day for the next 50 days that the Holy Spirit would work powerfully in our lives. The words on the prayer card we invited everyone to come up to get read:

Set a fire down in my soul
that I can’t contain, and I can’t control.
I want more of You, God!

We are praying every day that God would set a fire inside of us…

Conspicuous!

CONSPICUOUS! That’s how I would describe the movement of God’s Holy Spirit in our youth ministry this season! You’ve heard some of the stories: 70 Ohills kids sent to winter camp to hear about the unconditional love of Jesus…14 students giving their lives to Christ since the start of 2018 (including another last Sunday!)…4 student baptisms in March (wasn’t that profoundly beautiful?!)…over 30 amazing and devoted volunteers weekly mentoring our kids in grades 5-12…and the latest conspicuous development…
